Why Cormac McCarthy Wrote About Incest

Exploring McCarthy's "The Passenger" & "Outer Dark"
3

What is up, everyone? We are back for some more Cormac McCarthy course content!

Today’s video examines why Cormac McCarthy incorporates incest into three of his novels.

Spoiler: it isn’t for shock factor. Incest makes up the entire metaphysical structure of McCarthy’s works, and today I will be synthesizing Claude Levi-Strauss’ theory of incest from his book The Elementary Structures of Kinship into McCarthy’s works.

I first heard about Levi-Strauss’ theory of incest from our OG member Alistar, with whom I did an hour-long interview (we were 100% right about Cormac liking young girls, lmao) where we discussed crazy theories about McCarthy. Our interview is below if you'd like to watch.

Also, I mixed up the order Claude Levi-Strauss’ name in the video, haha. Sorry!
