On June 21st, we will continue our journey through Dostoevsky’s works. We’ve already read Notes from the Underground and are doing a Crime and Punishment book club this weekend, and I am super excited to keep diving into him.

The Gambler is one of the most transformative novels in Dostoevsky’s bibliography, but it doesn’t get as much love as it should. It is one of the best explorations of addiction and moral machoism ever!

Almost all my friends do online sports betting or are addicted to something. Many of us are addicts, even if it isn’t to hard drugs (food, porn, self-destruction, phones, etc.)

There is something in this call for everyone, and the novel is only 240 pages, which is short for Dostoevsky.

Click here for more information on our Reading Dostoevsky book club/course.

If you can’t make it to the call, keep in mind you can still

  • Watch the recorded calls, which will be posted below

  • Watch the course video for the novel, which will be released 3-5 days before the book club

  • Lurk and listen to the call while it’s live if you’re busy with your family, commuting, working, or doing whatever. I am 100% fine with you popping in, saying your thoughts, and leaving if you’re super busy!

  • You can maybe make it to one of our other 10+ book clubs every month

  • FYI, beginners and expert readers are all welcome :)

We will meet on the date below at 9 AM PST on Zoom and talk for an hour about the novel.

June 21st - The Gambler
