What is Art? By Leo Tolstoy Book Club (June 2025)
Reading the Manifesto of the Literary Renaissance
For this month’s edition of the Leo Tolstoy book club, we will be reading his work on transformative art, a manifesto on what True Art is and a polemic on the decadence of art Tolstoy saw happening around him.
However, what could Tolstoy know of how decadent art would become in the century after his death? We live in the prophetic apocalypse of what Tolstoy predicted, in a hyperreality of art for art’s sake.
We will have one of our most important discussions yet on Tolstoy’s work on June 7th at 8:30 AM.
Even if you haven’t read the book, I encourage you to come because I will guide this discussion beyond just complaining about what art has become and how we can reorient it to something more aligned with Tolstoy’s vision.
I will see everyone there!
