We are doing it, everyone. On June 7th, we will continue the Ernest Hemingway book club and read his most famous novel.

But there is a twist.

Instead of focusing on the story's straightforward plot, I want us to enter full Hemingway schizo conspiracy mode.

I want to discuss what you think the symbols of the novels and the crazier the theories the better.

We will also continue to look at the novels through the lens of trauma theory by looking for these signs. We are doing this for every Hemingway book we are reading.

  • Delay

  • Repetition Compulsion

  • Retrenchment

  • Idee Fixxee

  • Death Fear

  • Death Impulse

  • Hypervigilance

  • Nightmares/Insomnia

  • Disassociation

  • Diversion

  • Narrative Repair/Talking

  • Anti-Narrative

  • Flashbacks

  • Numbing

I hope to see everyone at the call. It will only be 30 minutes! But, there are two other book club calls that day.

I would still encourage you to join if you can’t make the call because you can

  • Watch the recorded calls, which will be posted below

  • Lurk and listen to the call while it’s live if you’re busy with your family, commuting, working, or doing whatever. I am 100% fine with you popping in, saying your thoughts, and leaving if you’re super busy!

  • You can maybe make it to one of our other 10+ book clubs every month

  • FYI, beginners and expert readers are all welcome :)

We will meet on the date below at 10:30 AM PST on Zoom and talk for 30 minutes

June 7th - The Old Man and the Sea
