Sentence Structure Course: Verb it Up

Today, we are practicing three more simple verbal sentences before moving on to more complicated verbal forms next week!

This is where you will post your THREE sentences from the week two sentence-building course video. The exercises are described in the video and text below.

Written Instructions:

Number your sentences 1-3 and correspond them with the exercises

Only post your sentences. We need no context, apologies, or explanations. This is a place to practice. We will rate your writing ability based on the published work you stand behind.

Exercises:

Sentence One: -ing form as the predicate

[Subject] + [Auxiliary Verb (was/were)] + [Verb-ing] + [Modifier (optional)]

Example: "Harry's heart was pumping frantically now that he knew they were on the right track."

Sentence Two: The - ing form as present participle-adjectival

[Subject] + [Linking Verb] + [Present Participle (-ing verb used as an adjective)] + [Noun (with or without modifier)]

Example: “It was a searing Valley afternoon.”

Sentence Three: The -ing form as gerund (nominal)

[Subject] + [Verb] + [Gerund (-ing noun)] + [Object or Complement]

Example: "I remember seeing him a good many times before I first spoke to him."
