Poetry Book Club: Duino Elegies (March)
Read one of the best poetry collections with a group
Welcome to the March edition of the Poet’s Book Club! This a club where poets talk about the best poems/poets.
Each month, we will read one collection by a great poet and break down our favorite poems by them!
This month, we are reading one of the GOATS, Rainer Marie Rilke
I’ve chosen his collection, the “Duino Elegies,” as it is the most ambitious & complex of his works, and I know many of you guys out there are serious readers.
The elegies were composed in Rilke’s firestorm of creativity across two weeks in the Duino Castle.
The Elegies deal with mysticism, salvation, God, and melancholy. This is super high-level and technical poetry. So, let’s talk about it!
Please post an elegy you found inspiring in the comments below. Be sure to reread the Elegies in the comments, and also be ready to talk about the one you picked!
I would still encourage you to join if you can’t make the calls because you can
Watch the recorded calls, which will be posted below
Chat with me in Substack messages about the book and have any questions answered.
We meet on Zoom on the date below at 11:45 AM PST and talk for 40 minutes or so.
3/18 - A Thousand Mornings (Please comment the name of one poem from the book you want to discuss below so we can all make sure we read it and have it fresh in our minds!)
