Fiction Course: Image Patterns

The Main Tool Great Fiction Authors Use
1

Welcome back to the course. This week we cover one of the most important aspects of writing, Image Patterns.

The video above is a deep dive into image patterns. Below, I want to read and see you guys apply the video's principles to your writing. This is one of the most important aspects of writing, and the more practice you have, the better.

We are going to do a flash fiction challenge (less than 1000 words) where you apply the principles of image patterning to your work.

I didn't explain the assignment well in the video, but full instructions are below.

You should watch the video to understand image patterns and how to use them. If you skip it, you won't do well in this challenge and will learn nothing!

Your flash fiction should have a

ROOT IMAGE - this is the center of the piece

IMAGE SPLINTERS - have at least one physical object and one abstract object that you splinter into related images and metaphors from the root image.

SIGNIFICANT PERSONAL HISTORY - have a connection back to the symbol

CONTRAST - Layer the symbol with contrast

TIE IT TOGETHER - At the end, tie the splintered images back into the root image for the grand finale!

Post your assignment directly below or post a link!
