Cormac McCarthy’s 1973 Child of God may be his best descent into the darkness of the human psyche. This novel will make you confront our dark humanity, the odd nature of the South, and outcasts and make you question who really are society's victims.
Even though this isn’t my favorite McCarthy novel, it may be his most violent, and it’s a key to unlocking the deeper meanings of Suttree, Blood Meridian, and Outer Dark.
