With the explosion of news surrounding Cormac McCarthy’s relationship with Augusta Britt coming to the surface, why not read the two books she claims to have influenced most: All The Pretty Horses and Suttree.
All the Pretty Horses is the first novel in McCarthy’s The Border Trilogy, which we will read over the next three months (one month per book.) The novel catapulted McCarthy into literary stardom (200,000 books sold in six months) and features his only legitimate love story (even though most of you savages consider incest legitimate :p).
One of the things I want to focus on in this book club is the darkness within the novel. I don’t care if you’re a McCarthy expert or a first-time reader. My goal is to show how this novel, which many view as a McCarthy-lite beverage, is one of his deepest explorations of trauma.
I would still encourage you to join if you can’t make the calls because you can
